The Peppermill is a family restaurant in the true sense of the words and has gone full circle. Andre Vazquez, son of original Peppermill owners Pepe and Suzanne, took over the Mediterranean restaurant in New Parade in 2012 . Andre, who was General Manager of The Clarendon at Chandlers Cross in its peak years, is a trained chef and a food lover.
“ My parents ran the Peppermill from 1968 to 1998 and I have a photograph of me, aged 2, sitting on the draining board! I’ve always loved food but when I quit smoking I found I had an amazing palate – especially sensitive to bold red wine! I love being an integral part of Chorleywood again.”
Andre’s mission from the word go was to retain the buzzy, family ‘Chorleywood feel’ of the restaurant.
“There are no airs and graces. We are about making people happy. The menu is Mediterranean driven and we specialise in peasant style meals – meatballs, al dente pasta, home made pesto, risotto. All ingredients are fresh, homemade and seasonal. Salad dressings and mayos are made in-house as are all the puddings including some of Suzanne’s bespoke dessert recipes from the early days.”
Steak, sea bass and cod provide a more mature menu option and encourage people to use the Peppermill for a cosy dinner venue. Other draws are the wholesome breakfasts, light lunches and music nights.
