St Clement Danes student Sasha Burrell took part in the British Schools Gymnastics Association (BSGA) Regional Schools Trampoline Competition in December and got through to the next Zonal round held in Staffordshire early Feb 2107“ My sports teacher Miss Welford suggested that I give trampolining a go and I love it – I won first place in the Disability Category Two Novice competition. I am looking forward to doing the next level – there are a lot more people competing. I have to do moves like twists, straddles and drops but the hardest thing is staying in the middle of the trampoline! “

Sasha, who lost both lower legs last year as a result of Sepsis, wears prosthetic lower limbs and has recently had blades fitted

“My blades are easier to wear than my previous ones – they are much lighter.”

“The NHS are now funding activity prosethetics for children.” adds Mum Claire, “Sasha had her blades from the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore just before Christmas. The team there are brilliant.”

Blades are made from lightweight carbon fibre which is stiffer than steel, and around five times stronger. They store kinetic energy like a spring and allow running and jumping.

“My blades are a galaxy space-like design with starbursts in pink, blue and purple – they are really cool!”
