Top of the local free-from charts are The Peppermill and Rootz Brasserie’s gluten-free alternatives for pizzas and pastas and the excellent gluten-free fish n’ chips at award-winning Seamasters, Berry Lane, Ricky. Highly rated too are The Red Lion, Chenies with their inspired separate dairy-free and gluten-free menus “We adapt our dishes on request if possible” says head-chef Simon Sheil. Stag Chef, Masterchef contestant Arun Manickman, includes gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and pescatarian menu choices and he recommends Kerala Fish Curry. Head for Rootz Brasserie for breakfast and brunch – anything on gluten-free toast and veggie options as well as home made free-from dishes like pizza, chocolate brownies, burgers and pasta.Sea Master in the Uxbridge Road (Money Hill Parade) offer gluten free batter on request.
For home shopping, Budgens gluten-free products include mueslis, pasta, oat bran, flour, and biscuits. Glute-free pasta at Gusto and Rex Bakery, Little Chalfont sell chocolate buns tolerated by dairy-free customers and 3 Sons, Lower Rd has a vast range of American free-from salad dressings, jams and pasta sauces that also suit diabetics. They sell veggie cheese too. Health shop Anamaya in Lower Road has packed shelves. Online, www.theallergyangel.co.uk focuses on multi allergies, especially sweet treats like Moo-Free wheat and soya free cocoa based products. Or for special occasions try Cinnamon Square, Ricky for gluten-free or egg-free celebration cakes from £27.99.
Heading for London? Wahaca offers trendy Mexican street food with gluten-free and vegetarian choices. Healthy fast-food outlet Leon, ( a CW Bookshop Happy Foodie Fest exhibitor), are renowned for accommodating special dietary needs and recently released their summer menu. Romeo’s Gluten Free Bakery in Islington is the perfect one stop shop! Alongside their own home-baked breads and cakes, the all-day menu includes pies, sandwiches, pastas and desserts.
