Young Rangers’ Squelchy Summer Fun

The first two Chorleywood Young Ranger taster sessions in the summer holidays went down a storm. Ranger Andy Goddard led a group of fourteen 4 – 11yr olds who loved taking part in the Scavenger Hunt, looking out for feathers, Y shaped sticks, oak leaves and other wildlife, flora and fauna on the Common.

The ponds were the highlight “ The kids loved paddling in mud on the edge of ponds“ says Nikki Varnals of Friends of Chorleywood Common, “Some waded deeper and squelched their way back with water filled wellies. Finding grasshoppers and lying in the long grass was fun as well as rolling down the grassy hillocks (on the golf tees!)”

Further sessions may be available during school holidays. Potential future activities include fungus foray, insect house making and den building. The joint scheme between Chorleywood Parish Council and Friends of Chorleywood Common (FOCC) aims to get children to appreciate our natural environment and really get to know the Common.

Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult.
