Forget Cannes, the village’s very own Film Festival takes place this month.  Running over the weekend of the 17-19 February, the Festival is a celebration of films with a twist.

We spoke with Keith Frost, Chair of Chorleywood Film Club.

“As the Festival is a joint collaboration between Chorleywood Bookshop and ourselves, we based the programme on films adapted from novels and biographies.

It opens on Friday 17th with a tense wartime romantic drama set in Nazi occupied France. Suite Française (15), based on Irene Nemirovsky’s novel, stars Kristin Scott Thomas, Matthias Schoenaerts and Michelle Williams

On Saturday morning there’s a ‘Meet The Film-makers’ featuring winning entries from our Young Film-makers Competition – plus a Q&A with local professional film-makers, some animated ‘shorts’ and the classic short The Red Balloon (U)

Saturday afternoon we have a fantasy adventure based on Dick King-Smith’s children’s novel, The Water HorseLegend of the Deep (PG).  It stars Emily Watson, Alex Etel, Ben Chaplin, and David Morrissey

Saturday evening has The Dressmaker (12), a comedy revenge drama set in Australia based on Rosalie Ham’s novel starring Kate Winslet, Liam Hemsworth, Sarah Snook and Hugo Weaving.

The Festival concludes with the timeless Rogers & Hammerstein musical, The King and I (PG).  Adapted from Margaret Landon’s book ‘Anna and the King of Siam’ and starring Deborah Kerr, Yul Bryner and Rita Moreno.

We’re really excited about the Festival and grateful to Sewell & Gardner for their support. We hope the village turns out and supports it, so that 2018 will see Chorleywood’s Second Annual Film Festival!”

All screenings at the Memorial Hall. Tickets from Chorleywood Bookshop. More info at https://cwfilmclub.org
