Ex-St Clement Danes student Chorleywooder Jonny Godbold is currently starring in an exciting new touring production of Irving Berlin’s classic musical Annie Get Your Gun which stops off at Aylesbury Wayerside Theatre this month.
The musical is based on the legendary story of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West female sharpshooter, Annie Oakley and her romance with Frank Butler. When Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show comes to town, it only takes one glance for sharp-shooting country girl Annie Oakley to fall head over heels for its star marksman, Frank Butler. Both have truly met their match, revealing their competitive natures as they vie for best shot – and each other’s hearts.
“It’s a feisty love story between two sharpshooters and is full of all the music you want to hear” says Jonny, “all the tunes are timeless classics, such as There’s No Business Like Show Business and Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better which are sure to have you dancing in your seats. It’s a great cast and great fun.”
This production, modelled on the Tony Award-winning version of the show, is a true spectacle and Jonny acts alongside stars such as Emma Williams and Jason Donovan, .
“It is one of those shows you realise is a foundation show of the industry, where everything started, so it is a bit of history in itself! ”
The show is currently mid-tour, and Jonny’s first experience of a touring theatre production.
“ I went for the opportunity as it was my style of show, I’m more suited to the old style musical. It’s great fun, a great bunch of people, I’m having an absolutely awesome time – just imagine doing something you really enjoy doing, every day.”
