Chorleywood Community Arts Centre, started by a group of enthusiastic creative women in 1968, attracts art and craft enthusiasts from Ealing to High Wycombe.
We have a rare gem in the light and airy converted Methodist church at the top of Colleyland complete with a full sized kiln which is fired twice a week – one of the main reasons art enthusiasts travel to Chorleywood from all over.
The centre operates in a unique way being run as a self help, self funding organisation with members pooling skills and sessions run workshop style rather than as lessons. There are a few teachers amongst the members including some potters with ceramic degrees and a handy technical knowledge of glazes
The Centre is a charitable organisation which owns and maintains the building – there’s an extension planned soon !
Current art activities include pottery and sculpture, painting on silk , embroidery, painting, mosaic and life class.
November is the ideal time to check out the Centre as they open their doors over a weekend for the annual art exhibition putting on demonstrations of Painting and Pottery ( Fri 10 Nov – Sun 12 Nov). Exquisite hand-made silks, pottery and paintings are also for sale at knock-down priced which make ideal Christmas Gifts.
