CRA has followed up residents’ concerns over availability of salt for icy roads.

Herts County Council (HCC) continue to maintain existing salt bins (and will fill them before onset of winter) but they no longer provide new ones. Residents can purchase a new bin and site it on private land. It is possible to apply for funding from HCC’s Highways Locality Budget, however there is no guarantee of funding or in time for this winter. Up to 34 bags of free salt are available from HCC on application. Individuals can’t apply but schools, resident groups who have a constitution, charities and Resident Associations can. Residents can club together to buy a bin at £100, but must agree on the site and how it will be funded. The CRA can submit an application for free salt on behalf of residents
