Chorleywood’s Best Kept Secret

Chorleywood is fast earning a reputation for shaking up some of the best cocktails around – who knew? Once a month the PeppermilI in New Parade turns into a buzzy tapas cocktail bar where Bellinis, Martinis, Margharitas and Mojitos are as much in demand as the Spanish savoury pick ‘n’ mix dishes.

“We have a weekly Wednesday Bubbles and Boards night and have now added a monthly Tapas and cocktail night” says Peppermill proprietor Andre Vazquez.

Tapas have become menu favourites – they are great value for money and the dishes keep coming. Stars of the culinary show are velvety melt in-the-mouth arancini (deep fried Sicilian rice balls), tasty soused peppery sardines, chorizo in a tangy orange chili sauce and impressive King Prawns – the aroma hits you as soon as the waitress steps out of the kitchen. There’s plenty for veggies too.

While chefs Joe and Ollie are churning out the chorizo, crostini and calamares from the kitchen, mixologist Alex gets stuck into creating fruity and alcoholic concoctions at the bar.

Alex and Joe worked together with Andre at The Clarendon in Chandlers Cross so the team have perfected the selection of bites and combination of drinks.

Alex adds his own spark to the mixes

“Classically a Mojito should have a white rum but I prefer to use a spicy golden rum like Havana Especial which has more flavour.“

The cocktails on offer are classics but, if you fancy something off piste, you can request a special.

“Bellini is the most popular and Espresso Martini is very fashionable at the moment.”

As for Alex’s current favourite, it’s Whisky Sour.

“But it’s definitely not for the squeamish!”

Drink if you dare
