I can eat a rainbow.

On Tuesday 21st October two nutritional therapists, Lucy and Pari, were invited in Chorleywood Primary School to discuss the importance of healthy eating and the need to ‘eat the rainbow’ in every meal. Children in Key Stage 2 were shown given a  presentation where they were able to engage with the nutritionists and answer questions to assess their own diet.

During the afternoon, eight brave children volunteered to take part in a blindfold tasting activity, where they had to guess the name of the fruit or vegetable based on its smell, texture and taste.

The children were  given a goodie-bag consisting of dried fruit and mixed seeds. To develop the children’s knowledge of maintaining a balanced diet, the children were given half-term homework to present a healthy meal ensuring they have included foods of different colours.

“This is one of many projects we have developed to widen the opportunities for children at our school in line with the new National Curriculum. Children need to become more aware of factors that can affect their health and the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. We work closely with parents to design a stimulating PE curriculum that offers a range of opportunities for our children.” says Ronan Rasheed. “It was a great afternoon and all the children and adults learnt a lot from the presentation.”

“My favourite part was watching the other children tasted the unusual fruits!”

“I am going to try to eat the rainbow for dinner!”

“I can’t believe you can get dried watermelon!”

“I like eating fruit because it tastes sweet.”

The dining room at Chorleywood Priamary has recently been redesigned to incorporate a brand new kitchen area for children to use to prepare and cook a range of healthy foods.
