elec umbteamProfessional musician Tom Billington and friends have set a Kickstarter project for Electric Umbrella – a locally based professional music experience for adults with learning difficulties, and they need £5,000 pledged by next Tuesday 22 October

Electric Umbrella is led by Tom and was started in 2102

“I was first approached by Three Rivers District Council to run a series of weekly workshops involving adults with learning difficulties called GET SET CREATE back in September 2012.” says Tom, ” I had spent years in bands, touring and making records and also worked in circus, TV and education. I had the idea that I’d like to make an album or put on a gig to give the project some focus , there were a few existing performance opportunities except weekly discos but nothing that grabbed our imaginations. So, we decided to take a risk and put on our own show. What it eventually became –  Electric Umbrella, exceeded all of our expectations. Every week we get together write and record songs, play instruments, design logos, design and print our own t-shirts and posters, sing karaoke, eat lunch, hang out… It’s just like being in a band! We have visiting artists and workshops and everyone gets involved. Our local authority funding has now come to an end and we really need extra money to make future sessions possible. If we don’t reach the target by next Tuesday  22 Oct, all past pledges will be lost.”
