Pippa Greenslade’s flat in Chorleywood House has recently been refurbished
“I wanted to create a look that reflected my style but was in keeping with the character of the house.” says Pippa, “It is an amazing space to live in and a privilege to be part of so much history! The rooms have a very grand feel with high ceilings and magnificent windows – they are an important feature and don’t need a window dressing, there are integrated blinds that just pull down. Rich timbers fit in well – all my tables and chests are in cherry and rosewoods. I travel a lot with my job and I’ve collected artefacts from all over the world and it was important to me that they were central to the décor.”
Pippa commissioned local interior design studio Timeless Interiors to revamp the sitting room and the TV room.
“The TV room colour scheme was based on a painting by Antoine Chapon of St. Martin in the French West Indies.” says Maura Yelverton Cohen, MD of Timeless Interiors, “It has a stunning watercolour palette of blues and greens from palest aqua through to deepest cobalt. Pippa preferred a soft duck egg tone so we chose a Colefax and Fowler Linen in a blue and ivory broad stripe for the sofa upholstery, a Romo fine stripe fabric in the same muted tones for the curtains and a Casamance geometric print for the tub chair. There were already shutters at the window and we ordered a custom-made radiator cabinet. It is a very restful scheme and perfect for a relaxation room. The living room décor was inspired by wooden figures of Burmese monks carrying alms bowls replicas PIppa bought in Singapore as well as Indian block print terracotta and blue cushions plus the architecture of the room was taken into account. We painted the walls in Farrow and Ball neutral shade (Pointing) as a backdrop and ordered an elegant ivory sofa then and used a linen slub in Peacock blue by Casamance to cover the dining chairs and scatter cushions. I arranged for the window surround to be French polished and illuminated display cabinets for her figures to be made to measure to fit either side of the window then stained to match. I sourced a fire surround from a salvage company in Ireland and was finding it difficult to get bricks online but Bovingdon Bricks came to our rescue – they were really helpful by letting us take samples away for colour matching. We made a feature on the back wall by framing and grouping Pippa’s travel photographs and we found a French mirror in an antique fair in Battersea that fitted in perfectly and turned out to be from Montpelier which is close to Pippa’s French home. Finally, a few deep red accessories were added to pick up the crimson colour of the figures’ robes.”
“ I am thrilled with the result adds Pippa, “I love spending time in the sitting room it has such big bay windows with amazing views and you can believe the rumour that the Estate Manager kept an eye on the whole estate from here!”
