Adam Henson needs little introduction to Countryfile addicts . The Cotswold farmer has been a presenter on the BBC magazine show for 15 years whilst running his working farm Bemborough, (Adam’s Farm to TV viewers) and the Cotswold Farm Park. His latest book Like Farmer like Son gives readers the back story… how he developed his passion for animals, how he hated boarding school then, worked and played hard to achieve his goal. We are taken with him on work experience on the Chatsworth Estate and to farms in Australia and New Zealand. We see him learn to shear and herd sheep, drive a combine harvester and live though the absolute fear of foot and mouth and TB back at Bemborough. He recalls his Countryfile journey and tells of unusual assignments and camaraderie off camera. Not forgetting the time he meets the PM and the Royals. But most of all this book is about the relationship between Adam and his father Joe who was his ‘benchmark’ and his ’beacon’.

As a lad Joe had a stammer and found solace in his farm animals and his lead toy collection. In the 40s and 50s Joe chose to become a farmer, developed an interest in Britain’s rare breeds and went on to play a major part in their conservation. He became a broadcaster on Country Matters with Angela Rippon and presented Animal Magic with Johnny Morris.
