Watersmeet is back on the map as one of the most popular local venues. We talk to Manager Josh Sills
“Over the last ten years there were strict rules about what could and couldn’t be done here “ explains Watersmeet manager Josh Sills, “but as of last summer we are now able to provide our own programme of shows and it has gone down a storm. Children’s titles are doing really well and offer excellent value. Our next family show, Alice in Wonderland over May half term, is going to be amazing. It is produced by the same company as our 2017 panto so we know the standard is high. Bands have been popular..we completely sold out One night of Queen and have Little Mix Experience coming on 31 May which is selling really well.”
Live screenings from the National Theatre have proved a hit
“The NT screenings are such a great way to see live theatre locally We have Julius Caesar this month (20 April) with Macbeth coming soon. With tickets a fraction of a cost of London prices and lower, if any, travel fares we get a lot of student bookings.”
The vastly improved bar area and air conditioning in the building has resulted in more event bookings, especially weddings and corporate functions
“ We cater for functions by making the raked floor level and removing theatre seats to make a cabaret style space accommodating 250 guests. Popular dates are booked up until 2020! “
So what’s next?
“ More bands, more comedy and more family shows. We are constantly upgrading the technical equipment and already have a state of the art projector system. There’s always something new to consider!”
