St Clement Danes School has been awarded ‘World Class’ status, one of only 44 in the country to have achieved this prestigious Quality Mark. Only schools who can demonstrate that they are operating beyond the level of OFSTED ‘Outstanding’ are able to be considered, and, following a rigorous assessment process, Executive Headteacher Dr Josephine Valentine and Head of Sixth Form, Emma Brogan accompanied 4 students to an awards ceremony on Thursday night in central London to accept the award.
The Quality Mark is unique in that it measures and assesses the students in a school and not the teachers. Led by Assistant Headteacher, Michael Garvey, students from across the school helped to put together video and written evidence of the school’s performance in the first phase of accreditation. 3 students then attended an assessment day at a primary school in Barnet at which they had to carry out a social responsibility project, watched by assessors. Paying tribute to the work that the students completed, Mr Garvey said ‘the students who represented the school at the assessment day worked impressively on a project to create a learning wall and furniture for the school’s reception. During the evidence gathering phase which took place before this, it was incredible to see the breadth and depth of all our students’ appreciation of the learning that they undertake at St Clement Danes and the pride with which they view their school.’ Valentine, who accompanied the students to the awards ceremony said ‘As students past and present will tell you, I never miss an opportunity to tell students and staff that we are probably the best school in the world! I am delighted that after all these years, this prestigious award gives us at least a little more evidence to support my assertions.’
