It’s nearly Apple Day again. The family friendly event (3 Oct), run entirely by enthusiastic Community Orchard volunteers, has become one of the main dates of the Chorleywood calendar. Heavy rain last year didn’t deter organisers and visitors from celebrating the autumn fruit grown on Chorleywood House Estate. Apple Day children’s Activities include apple based crafts and apple pressing using a traditional apple crusher and press. You can taste and buy locally produced apple juice, cider and honey, locally grown heritage apple varieties as well as jams, jellies and chutneys, all made using local fruit. Tempted to grow your own apples? Get advice on buying, planting, growing and managing your own fruit trees from the experts. But the star attraction is the famous Orchard Barbie serving John May and Don’s bespoke pork and Chorleywood apple sausages, accompanied by home-made plum and, of course, apple chutney.
Orchard tour available for adults!
The Community Orchard was established in Chorleywood House Estate in 2009 by Alison Rubens, Every tree is sponsored by an individual or organisation but the apples belong to the community. Helpers always welcome.
