Like Father, Like Son is this month’s offering from The Film Club. showing on Sat April 25.
Sorry – you’ve been bringing up the wrong child…
Six years after your child was born, an unexpected phone call from the maternity hospital informs you that “sorry, there’s been a mistake”. They suspect that the son you are raising is not actually yours. You were given the wrong child, and another family are unknowingly bringing up your son as their own.
How do you react and what should you do if DNA tests confirm your worst fears? Should you keep the child you love, or swap him for your biological, but unknown, son? How do you explain it to the two small boys concerned?
These are the dilemmas confronting two families in Like Father, Like Son– the Film Club’s choice for April. Set in modern day Japan, writer/director Hirokazu Kore-eda’s compelling family drama explores the universal themes of parenthood, father and son relationships and issues of nature versus nature.
The four main adult leads all deliver convincing performances as do the two small boys .
